The ASB send all the board members and everything and everyone around them for 5 miles back to 1800 (don't worry about what gets displaced*). How would this change the world?

Many of us replied, "Dunno 'bout changing the world, but I, personally, am screwed..." :(

So OK, if the ASB's were going to send an area five miles in radius back in time and you had to be there, where would it be? Let's also dial it forward a notch to May 1st, 1817, the first year of the longest sustained peace in European history that didn't feature blizzards in July :D . Extra points for an area with power, transportation & fuel, a library and whatnot that's even more compact. I know it's cheesy to post this and not start the ball rolling, but I just don't know a really good candidate.

*: I like to think that it all pops up just outside of Vegas in OTL, and all the pioneers, Indians, and Swedish townsfolk get a wad of c-notes. It sorta balances out the miserable deaths of everybody in Phoenix...

Well if we all are going to be there let us all end up in Allendale Mich ,
It has a college there with a power plant and a lot of Farm land around it .
There is also a river near by .

^why not in a nice 5mile grid centered on Allendale? :D that way we'd pick up a good size chunk of Michigan. The US just got a nice boost...
/if dropped back to 1817 the US would be a nice place to be.

I remember the thirty-five shrieked goodbyes
When you put me on the ASB
Back to Allendale
All the members
And the Rabbit were quite surprised
To show up in the Wolverine State
In the Age of Sail...

I'd grab the University District in Seattle. In addition to a huge concentration of academic resources, both human and hard-copy, it's actually got a working power plant, machine shop, first-class hospital, and all the comforts of home.

But you can't get anywhere from there, at least not very easily. I centered the radius on Husky Stadium, and you don't even get access to the Pacific without re-digging the Ship Canal. And might I add, what kind of a name is Ship Canal? "Well, that tears it! That's the forth fellow to drown with his horse in the Portage Bay Canal this week! We're re-naming the confounded thing, and then you can't say we didn't warn you!"

Where would we be going, anyway? It's 1800; I don't want to get mixed up in the Napoleonic Wars. By 1820, the on-campus earthmoving equipment will have been able to redig enough of a canal to get the little sailing boats (all that's on campus) into the Sound, and until then, any place will have enough on its plate achieving stability.

well theres an armoury with about 25 abrams tanks 30 humvees and various other vehicles and guns lots of guns with ammo  within 5 miles 3 gas stations almost everyone has generators or guns so there would be a small army with modern weapons and at the armoury there is a national guard divison

I agree about the wars- I changed the arrival date to May 1st, 1817 in the topic starter. We ought to go somewhere, though- it seems a shame to waste potential world domination by just sitting around in stunning, pristine wilderness and gorging ourselves on the fat of the land.

Or maybe that's not so bad after all.

I figure I'm better off by eliminating outside interference until I can manipulate my fellow students into giving me the reins of power. No sense in letting anyone else influence the budding American culture; Lord only knows what sorts of egalitarian free-market nonsense they'll try to instill.

It would be much better for most of us if it was 1880...at least in the west, eh guys? ;)

Not too bad, myself.

However, kinda depends on what gun we're talking about, eh? Don't have to be that good with a submachinegun to make a lasting impression...

Don't need to be if I mind my business and just live off the land...much brather be good with shovel and some seeds. ;) I live in the west, meaning yes there will be some gunfighting, but much of it will be rare. Besides I'm in Utah, I much brather just loot a store, and maybe a nursery and just try and plant stuff as to eat. :p I get hungry.

I am excellent with the proper usage of a gun. That is to say, I know that the best way to shoot a man is while he's asleep and you're standing right over him.
