In the middle of the night, an ASB appears to you and tells you that Heaven and Hell do exist and that you are now in charge of who goes to Heaven and who goes to Hell. What do you do with this new power?

And what sort of information do I have available upon which to make such a descision?

And what exactly are Heaven and Hell in this scenario, and what state will the people sent to either find themselves in in terms of their personal attributes (not just their surroundings).

Problem is, if I were God, I'd set up a Universalist system, where everyone basically gets to review their lives with perfect comprehension, compassion, and empathy and are led to repentence and redemption and forgiveness (both for themselves and those who have transgressed against them) followed by eternal life in paradise. So everyone would go to Heaven in short order, but everyone needs a little (or in some cases huge) tune-up first.

Okay, then I send almost everyone to Heaven, but those who might be a real danger I send to Purgatory to work out their issues and eventually get to Heaven.

I'd prefer my scenario where I am God to this, but if that is all I've got, that's the best I can do.

I combine Heaven and Hell. The people who have to do all of menial and nasty jobs are in Hell, and those who don't have to work are in Heaven. Of course, everybody undergoes reincarnation, its just those that are in Heaven have a choice of what life they get to live, those in Hell get sent into the next avaible opening. People who were really nasty in life get a bunch of nasty hard lives as their next ones.

Now, now, there are bound to be a lot of quiet fanatics who spend their lives caring for the sick, helping the poor, etc... and who hardly bother the rest of us at all.

Of course, there's still plenty of selfish fanatics. I'm not inclined to be lenient on them.

It depends. I draw up a series of criteria for who goes and who doesn't...the really nasty bastards and what not stay in Hell. Everyone else, religious belief doesn't matter, who either just led normal lives, or else who led good lives, go to Heaven. Oh...people who agree with me go to Heaven as well.
