What if Iraq had lost the gulf war to Iran? Do you think Khomeini would be better to the Shiite population of southern Iraq than Saddam had to the Arabz in Ahvaz? (After all,he did bombed the city to dust after the failed Shiite revolt of 2003).

Maybe they would be riots but far more different than what we got OTL.I imagine they would be anti Iranian riots as opposed to the pro Baath riots we got OTL.I would also imagine anti shiite riots at least in Syria and Lebanon.

Well, U.S. Politics would be a lot less partisan.

With Republican support of Iraq becoming such an issue, the 1988 presidential campaign would have been much further apart, and Bush might have won the popular vote as well as the electoral. Which means, a less severe Democratic backlash in 1990, and the chain of counter-backlashes doesn't get going.
