Hello, dunno if you remember me, but it's Masked Pickle, I am still preparing my TR gets re-elected in 1908, but the poll that voted for it was held on July, and who knows how much the mood has changed since these times... My works are still there, but I have decided to put a new poll in place, that will last for 15 days...Pick up your choice! The TL would be shown in early June.
1.Standing at Armageddon: TR in 1908
Theodore Roosevelt, instead of endorsing Secretary of War Taft, decides to break the Washington Tradition and run for his own succession in 1908... I'm currently preparing this TL.
2. Pathway to Glory: Wood '20
General Leonard Wood manages to clinch the Republican nomination in 1920.
3. Just a Heartbeat Away: Harding/Lenroot '20
My second TL attempt that I have abandoned for lack of feedback, presuming that Progressive Senator Irvine Lenroot is picked as running mate for Harding in 1920...
4.The last battle of Fighting Bob: Progressives in 1924
Robert La Follette and Burton K. Wheeler both manage to win the White House after their third party run in 1924.
5. The Grasshopper Lies Heavy: Zangara don't misses, 1933
While the country is awaiting for the inauguration of FDR, assassin Giuseppe Zangara kills him in Chicago in 1932, paving the way for Vice President-Elect John Nance Garner...
6. One World: Willkie for President in 1940
Wendell Willkie manages to win the Race while the country is close to WWII.
7. For a Little Flower: La Guardia for President '40
The liberal Republican Mayor of New York Fiorello La Guardia manages to reach the White House in an upset, portraying himself as the true successor of President Roosevelt, who had decided not to run for a third term.
8. The Dead Rockefellers: A Rockefeller Dynasty
By a fluke of the Gods, the Rockefellers replace the Kennedys as the legendary political dynasty of the XXth Century.
9. Alternate Actors and Presidents
Not a single TL, but more a series of them, where Ronald Reagan is butterflied away and other actors make political stunts...Through the use of faux Wikipedia articles and extracts from history books... President James Stewart, anyone?
10. Alternate Generals and Presidents
As for the Actors mini-TLs, same things with US Army Generals, the likes of Eisenhower, Grant and others. Just imagine MacArthur. Or Pershing... Not to say Patton.
11. Dewey Defeats Truman, 1948
My first attempt at a TL, where the 1948 election upset turns out to be false and Dewey becomes the new President.
12. Giant Sucking Sound: Ross Perot for President '92
Ross Perot manages to become the first Independant President of the United States since George Washington.
Plus: you can make multiple choices, but for the sake of convenience, try to pick just one choice, or at the very last 3.

Either The Rockefeller Dynasty or Actors and Presidents. Preferably the latter.

#1 could lead to much more American Expansionism, so therefore I am voting for #1.

If you have WW win in 40, will the US become/stay isolationist? If so, I vote for that. I think it would have the most interesting changes. Failing that, I vote for the second quasi-isolationist president--Perot in 92.

Willkie was an internationalist.
I have my own Dewey defeats Truman idea in mind, so don't steal my thunder!
I think The Man in the High Castle used Zangara as the POD. It'd be nice to see a realistic take on that one.

Actually, as it turns out, I was going to use this POD for a revamping of the TL in my sig. I have a lot of cool plans for it, and I plan to use a different course of action than "Garner is inaugurated without opposition" cliche.
So don't use this one!:p

Yes, Willkie was such an internationalist, he served as special envoy of FDR to Nationalist China and explained his foreign policy views in a book called "One World", hence the name of the TL.
As of Zangara, yes, FDR's assassination is the POD for The Man in the High Castle. Even if a Garner presidency would be God-awful, I don't think it would turn to a German takeover...But who knows?

I like the Wood '20 idea. The Rockefeller Dynasty would make an interesting timeline as well.

Bleh. IMO the Roosevelt in 1908 idea would be really dull, I've tried to come up with a scenario for that myself, and I always found myself either dragging out Roosevelt-Wanks to the point of insanity, or wanking a CP victory in WW1.
IMO, Rockefeller Dynasty is probably the most unique, and best idea on the list.

When the 15 days-delay will end, I will put a new poll with the first three choices, leaving the final decision to the voters.

1. Taft haated the job, simply don't have Roosevelt insult him all the time and he would have been able to run after Taft without any problem. Especially considering how Roosevelt is the one who wanted Taft as President, not Taft himself.-----------------------------------------------5. Zangara wouldn't be able to afford it likely. Plus their is the issue that if he went there then he would have simply went to Washington to kill Hoover as he originally planned. Alas it was too cold for his stomach. Chicago would scarcly be better, especially considering how fast he would need to move and I doubt he could read the papers for any rumored plans.------------------------------------------------------8. I wish I had brought that book with my instead of donating it... Anyways, the Rockefellers would not work as well due to their scrupulous honesty and how they had more power just being efficient industrialists than they would running for office. It would seem like they were buying the country, even though their lifestyles were the least snobby of the lot---------------. Of course, as John D. Rockefeller was the richest man in history and donated half his money to charity (starting from ten percent when he got his first job) so you would be able to make them moral heads perhaps. They paid to set up the best schools in China and they created the Rockefeller Center solely to give people jobs, so they could certainly get a fair bit of good will. Heck, have them buy up the bankrup Newfoundland instead of having it go back to England or into Canada! A real fear back then.

Actors For President could be quite interesting. As could Perot '92.

It would be too far fetched. They would not be able to keep Standard Oil, the steel, the railroads, or anything of that sort. If you had Rockefeller branch out business wise, however... J.P. Morgan was filled with dread when Rocky bought a coalmine. He's lucky he was willing to sell in exchange for assuared space on his trains. Which does remind me of why Rockefeller got so big. He was efficient, he filled the trains he rented the space of on regular schedule instead of cancling or filling with flucuting numbers, he brought steel beams down to a fourth of their original price, and he was scrupulous. Seems like someone to try drafting. A branch of the family might go for being Senators of Governors of New Jersey, New York, and (just to keep the trend going) New Hampshire, New Brunswik, Nova Scotia, and the Dominion of Newfoundland. Money talks, and so do marriages. Seriously though, you would need to draft him and I doubt the patriach or protege would go for it. The Senator Rockefeller might, but that's a longshot. On a side note.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominion_of_Newfoundland#End_of_responsible_govern ment

Do either the La Guardia or the La Follette timeline. Though if you don't do them, I may take one of them myself if that's ok with you.

On second thought I think I could go for Rockefeller Dynasty. Sounds cooler than a Wilkie TL and I'm sick of hearing about Teddy.

Couldn't you manage to meld the TR in '08, Wood in '20 and LaFollette in '24 timelines into one?

Once again, I know the TR one got more votes, but seeing how often it's done, I'd implore you to look at the other options -- looks like a Rockefeller TL is also highly popular...

I was just noting it was in second place -- besides, I've got my hands full, TL wise...

Because I'm very advanced on the making of the TR TL, I already made the Presidential list and it will be difficult to merge them.
Here we go for the new poll:http://www.alternatehistory.com/discussion/showthread.php?t=191133

Definitely La Guardia. Possibly Rockefeller, though you never see any LaGuardia TL's; I haven't seen a single one
