You should post the sale start in 1892 after the war. If you sell the area before the end of the war I feel sorry for your refugees.

We're talking the crib of the civilization, lands of the greatest CIVILIZATION ON EARTH, place of the Crown of Upper Egypt (not to mention the completely emptied and stripped) Habsburg government palaces, the NIle, and Khartoum!

Since it's landlocked, the only powers that really can get it are Mauriafrica, Draka, and Britain...

Ok, 1,200,000 with a promise from Austria to leave Crete alone.

Well, that's salesmanship for ya!
Actually, he did say starting bids $700,000. Seems fair. Why not just make that your bid, Oth?
BTW, how long should this stay open. If no counter bid in 24 hours, last highest gets it?

If I take the PM offer, then it would superceed all other offers right? Otherwise I lead the bidding.

What the?
First off, Oth jumps to $1.2 million? That's crazy, Oth!
Then you counter with a LOWER number Aussey? How about just saying $1.2 plus my PM deal?
This is already one of the strangest auctions I've ever seen.
You might want to throw a sheep or two into the bidding.....

I'm the base desert fighter in the game. I know where the oasises are throughout this region. I have allies in Bedioun sheepards and Berbers, I know where the traces of old civs are already. Need be I only have to fortify the boarders and divided it into tribal kingdoms. Plus 1.2 Million is nothing when you consider how much of my land is already waste land. Oh and if you haven't noticed, my troops have the abillity to fight into the native population. I can assassinate the radicals without trouble and infiltrtate to send them into traps. We're used to the sun.

I'm going to have to say that I'm in this auction just to help enlighten the people of the Sudan. Hopefully I can also get the French to sell Gambia to me. What you want is for the Mauriafricans to ally with you so you can prepare to fight against the Draka. If your princess is married in for an alliance she'd end up with one of the future king's cousins which are pretty high up in the millitary. You can call this man the Bonapart of Africa until I think of a name...I'll go up a bit if anybody else attempts to buy it.
Glen
July 15th, 2005, 08:21 PM
Okay, so Mauriafrica's official bid is $850,000, the hand of one of the Future King's cousins, an alliance with Austria against the Draka, and some sheep?
Austria throws in a princess and a promise to leave Crete alone until a few years after the fastforward? And a few goats?
Othniel

If Austria throws in a promise to leave Crete alone. This won't be premanant either. I say until two years after the ISOT. Although now I'm going to have and try my best to get Spain back together...

Hey, anything's possible....Really, the Iberian Peninsula is open to gamesmanship in the extreme. Let's see who's interests win out....

By ISOT I meant FF. Oh well, I wonder... if I can inspire the Republicans...or can call all factions.

Actually, there don't appear to be any Republicans in this Spanish Civil War. This is strictly about succession and cultural control.

In OTL or ATL? In ATL they were sending an army to crush the Mahdi from both North and South, then the event happened. Since then we have been eager to get it back......
In OTL it was a mixed bag.

Is like saying you will get rid of the problem in a hurry. It's a madhouse and is guerilla warfare for along time for whoever takes the area. No dice for Draka. Keep the area and die by the thousands.
PS. Don't be surprise if some MG-1 and rifles are making their way into the Sudan to make the life of the Austrian miserable. Just gifts from fellow muslims to their brother on their jihad.

I'm more gradual in my approach. There is no hurry. There is little subjuation, and much of it will just be missionary huts set up. Find out the problems and turn them to your advantage and their contentment.

Oh and I'll back out for the desert half of Sudan.
All I 'm saying is you are making everyhting sound so easy and is not. And if you can cover all the oasis and trails you don't have a lot of miltary to cover the rest of your country. You must be streched trying to digest the new territories and saying everyone is happy is not real life. Must likely dissention must exist. And what the rulers of the Kingdom of Mali is saying? A powerful nation in the 1400's, their ruling classes must be very unhappy of the situation, same in the other territories. You are just another colonial power. A nicer one, but a colonial power nevertheless and a colonial power always have dissention on their colonies. Or whatever name you're giving them.
We just kill whoever oppose us and them enslave the rest. No problem for us. So good luck garrisoning your new "provinces".All of them even the ones you got in 1886.

Eventually you will have to face them. The muslims fanatics will not take kindly to someone trying to convert them.

So, we have $4 million on the table from the UK.
However, there were some non-monetary trade to the other offer. How will Austria weigh those?
And how will Austria weigh the fact that Britain basically let the Draka do their dirty work and took Austria's territory? Would someone in r/l actually sell to them under those circumstances? Maybe, since money talks as they say....
$4 million seems like a nice sum, too.
BTW, where do the Mauriafricans get their money from, anyway?

Ever hear of the Emporer of Mali, Musa something? He brought the value of Gold in Cario by what is the equivalant of serval hundread dollars. Doesn't hurt that we get to remine the area.

I just noticed.
The Mauris are bidding dollars and the UK pounds....
Let's just ignore the denomination and go with the numeric values, shall we?
Glen
July 16th, 2005, 07:12 PM
Okay, it seems as if the UK and Mauri are our only bidders.
Let's end this.
My proposal....
Bulg and Oth, PM me your highest bids. The one who sends me the higher will win. Blind auction, quick and very normal.
Okay?

I have bid from both parties.
Before I post the final results, are we in agreement to 'ignore' whether the bids were stated in pounds or dollars, and just to go by the number amount?
Othniel

In whatever monetary value we are bidding in yes.

It was a very exciting and close auction.
At first, it seemed the bidding would end around the 8 million range with the Mauri, but then the UK went as high as 9.5 million.
But in the last hour, Mauri went to 9.9 million, and the UK decided that this priced the Sudan out of the range they were willing to pay at this time.
Thank you, gentlemen, for your cooperation on the Auction.
I will post the map showing the result in the map thread. Might I suggest that the fallout from the excitement of the auction be posted in your fastforward posts and that this thread be locked now?
The Auction is now officially gavelled closed....
