Would the Mormons apply to join the Christian Communion?
If they did, would they be accepted or rejected?
Help decide the future of ME7.

When they apply-- I can not see Benedict rejecting them.

Beneficent would be in a quandry about them. They seem ostensibly to accept most of the Christian faith, but then they have this overlay of other revelations, and some of the elements of the Latter Day Saints might give him pause. That's why the poll. I think the Mormons are on the borderline of what even tolerant Beneficent can accept. Not that there is anything wrong with Mormons, per se, but I think historically they have been rejected by most other Christian churches as not being true Christians. If someone knows otherwise, please chime in. I am by no means an expert on the Latter Day Saints.

We've established in the storyline that the only real qualification first set by the Christian Communion was that the Nicean Creed be accepted by all joining (with or without Philippic). I suppose the Apostle's Creed would be adequate as well, since the Nicean is more of an elaboration of that.
However, it looks from my brief perusal of the internet that the Latter Day Saints do not accept either creed? If that is so, I think they either wouldn't apply or wouldn't be accepted. Anyone else have any information or opinion on this? Again, I'm no expert.

Well since I'm the one with the little Mormon probelm let me put my two cents in.
They're not even accepted by most mainstream Christian groups OTL, which is throughly more progressive then any stream of thought in ME7. They might apply. But I really don't think they would fit in.

They do believe that they are the only true chruch, and that all others are corrupt. Read their articles of faith if you want to know their absolutes.

*Waves at MBarry* You think you have the mormon problem  Hello, non-mormon native of Utah right here... They're the ones who think the Aztecs and Native Americans desented from the Jews....

I think you're likely right, MBarry.
I've made the New Granadans and their version of the Church super-tolerant compared to the 19th century, but they still have their hang-ups as well.
They haven't embraced (though they really do tolerate and not discriminate in government) other religions outside of Christianity.
And they're still fairly 19th century in their mindset about women (I just couldn't see how that would come about in this timeline, though they are much more of the benign paternalism type bias rather than some of the more malignant forms of sexism that have existed over the centuries).
The Mormons will probably be too much for them to swallow as fellow Christians, though again, they'd likely tolerate them.
However, I think its looking like the Mormons probably wouldn't accept the Christian Communion, so the point is likely to be moot.
Thanks for all the feedback, guys. If anyone has a different take, please do let me know. I could be wrong....

I voted they will not apply. However I also think they would not be accepted. They are too far away.

Unless someone says something to convince me otherwise, or there is a radical change in the poll votes, I think I'm just going to assume that the Mormons were uninterested in joining and leave it at that. Saves me a headache, so that works. But I wanted to make certain I was right in my judgement on this one.

I don't think even the liberal church leaders of the era was accept a Morman application. They believe in three gods, separetly (Father, Son, Holy Ghost) and believe the God literally had sex with the Virgin Mary...they also believe Jesus is A Son of God, not THE Son of God...which basically wouldn't make it Christian persay...

Yeah, I've heard some of that before. I think that all would likely disqualify them from the Christian Communion, but I wanted to make certain I had it straight.

Yes, I noticed. Hmmm, maybe we should post a fight to the death between Patriarch Beneficent and Pope Simon in the ASB thread for the soul of the Church.
You do realize, Beneficent was born in New Granada, home of the happy duelists.... ;)
