Can anyone tell me about the politics and actions of the Maritimes leading up to and during the American Revolutionary War? What did they think about the rebelling colonies to the South? Why did they stay with the British? What really was going on there? I have had a difficult time discovering anything about the Maritimes and their relations with the other colonies in this time period.

Well, here's a site I found about Nova Scotia during the Revolution... http://odur.let.rug.nl/~usa/E/novascotia/scotiaxx.htm Hopefully it can be some help...

What piece, Oth? This is something I've been wondering about for a while now. What piece did you write?

Just as an aside, I believe that a sudden storm wiped out a lot of their fishing boats before the ARW. This might have had an effect on their conduct, but I don't really know if it did, or why.
Killing off a lot of sailors might have removed risktaking individuals from the population, or increased their wages and removed incentives to join a revolutionary movement.
