The bidding will be in British pounds. (I'm sure every reality except Mauriafrica should have them)

The bidding opens at a low 6.5 million pounds. :D

They might all have them, but were they worth the same amounts?

I'd recommend bidding in GOLD! Oooh, aaahhh, gooold, bwahahahaha....

And don't worry, everyone, New Granada will be passing on this fine auction, though our bankers are standing by to help your nations with any financing needs you may have, and we could hold the deposit in escrow for the parties for a very nominal charge while the deal is completed....

The pound did very well in my tl, so... they'd see the wisdom in useing the pound. I know some of the leaders in Oldenburg fled to Iceland, and then where going to go to New Granada

So, if I give you 5 million pounds, and the rights to a base, Iceland is effectively mine?

Sounds fine to me.....

Matt

47 Million (The New Netherlands)

Who precisely are the New Netherlands? The Dutch from the American Southwest now in the old Netherlands?

Yes, they have a logistical value, and are quite rich so I thought they had enough of a reason to buy it and then sell it to the US in return for extented presence. ;)

GP, he's been saying it for about a month now.

Finally got around to doing something about it.

Anyway, I think you should have Japan bid! That'd show those Gaijin!!!

BTW, does anyone else find it funny that there are several nations Oth is involved with that are bidding on his own territory. Trying to raise the price, Oth? Come on, tell the truth, you and GP are in this together, just chuckling at how much loot this will bring in for the Germans. ;)

It's the German confederation that is selling it. And yes, we just want tons of money so we can buy cool stuff like the La Platan Fleet.

Matt

Britain isn't going ot be buying a rock for 85 million pounds........

I suggest we let the Germans keep it and have their entire ploy collapse upon themselves.....

Matt

Not a bad idea, though either way I think I'm going to have more Dreadnaughts by the time 1899 rolls around.

Oh, you think OTL Britain was nuts for ships? With people invading Australia, the Draka threatening Kenya, and the Suez to defend, this Britain is going to have even more ships......

And as an interesting aside to Japan... if it finds itself in possesion of Iceland, it may find the coal from the worlds largest producer becoming increasingly prohibated.

So who won the auction for Iceland? Great Britain?

So, did Great Britain get Iceland, but provide a US base there, and auctioned off fishing rights for France?

35 million pounds then

Why do you want Iceland?

Matt
July 5th, 2005, 06:49 AM
As per the agreement in the selling of the Dutch American SouthWest(aka Texas) to the United States, I'm obligated to aide the Netherlands to modernize, and with there defense. I'm certainly not going to put my shiny Great White Fleet in port in Amsterdam where the German's can blockaide it. By basing a foward fleet in Iceland I can advoid this probelm, and in fact return the favor to them in the event of war.

Of course I'm not saying I want a war, but with my what is effectivly a protectorate over them, I have to be prepared. I dont think Germany has a beef with me, but it's more of the fact that I realize Amsterdam is on the traditional route to Paris.

You guys agreed to 24 hours. I however I'm just hearing offers until Jan 17, 1987 gametime. However this means the friday before the ISOT when I announce the transpher of the territory with a provisional clause for the USA to build a Naval Port there... ;)

Glen

I'm still confused.

Sounded to me like the Brits got it, with them agreeing with the US to allow a base.

And hopefully someone took up France's offer for paying for fishing rights. :)
