That book thing almost happened to me once, sort of.

I was out of sleeping pills so I took some Benadryl instead. I was reading a book in bed when I noticed that I wasn't really understanding things because there was a wall of neon pink rectangles pulsing with alternating orange and yellow lights behind the words, some of which detached themselves from the page and floated in front of me in 3-D, revolving occasionally.

After bemusedly experiencing this for god knows how long, I put the book down and tried to sleep while desperately gripping my mattress which I believed to be listing to one side as it was sinking into something. I believe I thought my mattress was on some weird hypno-cosmic sea and was sinking.

Eventually I fell asleep.

This whole thing was actually rather silly and a bit baffling in retrospect and I was really more confused than scared during the whole thing. I suppose I'd like to try it again, only this time be aware of what's happening. Not using Benadryl, though; I've always thought that using cold medicine as a hallucinogen is pretty sad/pathetic.
