The POD: Approximately thirty thousand years ago, an aberration in the space-time flux results in a being arriving over the New World just as the first Homo Sapiens are crossing the Bering Strait.
This being happens to be the product of human evolution, approximately 80 thousand years after 2000 AD, and is also a Tolkien fan. On a whim, he decides to populate the New World with the races of Tolkien.
The Elves, long lived, intelligent, dextrous, and a bit weak, are spread across the forests of the Northeastern US, the jungles of the Yucatan, the Pacific Northwest, and the Amazon. The Dwarves are found in the Appalachians, Rockies, and Andes. And the Orcs and goblins are found everywhere.
By 1492, civilization is roughly similar to that of the elves of Middle Earth, and the dwarves.
What now?

The Europeans denounce the peoples pf Middle Earth as heathens and try to conquer Middle Earth. The Elves, Men, Hobbits and Dwarves fight back and European colonization is completely unsuccessful.

the Elves of the Caribbean are enslaved and brought by as cuiriousities to the Courts of Europe. Them being seperate species may prevent the massive die off due to diseases, so I forsee more slavery and killing by Spanish colonizers in the Caribbean.
Though the Elves not dying of disease, but with low populations, and weaker than an average human, will make it so that the Colonizers begin spreading out to find more nad more slaves, raiding along the coasts and possibly coming in contact with other Elven bands and orcish hordes.
The European explorers probably won't be able to conquer the larger and stronger kingdoms, but they'll be able to, with their far more superior tech to make a go at it. Waging war against the Elves for thier fine goods and the Dwarves for their mineral wealth.
Gunpowder and cannons will be the deciding factor. Even though elves are good shots, they have a lower population and once refined, guns will have the bigger edge. The same goes agianst dwarves, their heavy armor won't protect them from slugs that can punch through steel.

Well, I'd say thus began the age of man. The elves and dwarves and hobbits are still using pitifully small bows, short swords, and chain mail. The elves use magic to keep their areas of settlement from attack, but everywhere else falls to musketeers. Dwarves are enslaved, the men of the new world still die to diseases, and the hobbits... well, they end up as pets or house servants or something.

Are humans in this new world?
And aren't the tolken races more advanced than humans if the p.o.d. is so early?

Muskets are worthless compared to an elven longbow, especially in the hands of someone who's trained with it off and on for longer than gunpowder has existed. The reason firearms were used by Europeans is because they were cheap and easy to use, neither of which is a factor with dwarven and elven smith-craft and lifespans. Guerrilla archery can slaughter any occupation force.

How long do you think it would take the Elves and Dwarves to figure out gun powder .
Also the European's would not have that much of advatice over them .
How would the European's stand up to Magic Uses .

Any Dwarfen smith worth their salt should be able to create a lightweigth, ball proof armor.
There is a roleplaying game in this vein. I think it is called 1492: Conquest.

Well, if the New World is like Middle Earth, there shouldn't be THAT many elves around. I believe they should all be migrating west across the sea from the Grey Havens(to Australia perhaps?) Therefore the hordes of European men with cheap muskets will surely push the Elves even faster in their quest to leave Middle Earth. I'm sure Europeans aren't above enlisting the services of orcs either.

What about wizards? Do you really think that any wizards in Middle Earth are just going to sit there and let the Europeans over run everything.

But... the Wizards left for Australia too. It's the end of the third age. In the Return of the King it was almost completely up to humans to do anything militarily. The other races had single missions like destroying the ring which apparently had to be done by a hobbit (because hobbits have no ambition?). But Gondor and Rohan were the only defenses keeping the orcs of Mordor from overrunning all of middle earth, elf, hobbit, and dwarf alike.

Did they? We know that Gandalf left because he was a ring bearer like Frodo, and we know that Saruman was murdered by Wormtongue, but what about other wizards, like Radagast?

Radagast the Brown? Radagast the Bird-Tamer? Radagast the Simple? Radagast the Fool?
Hehehe I don't know of any other wizards ever mentioned... as far as anyone knows there were only the three of them left in Middle Earth.

there were five of them. Two are not named in the trilogy, but Lost Tales has a note by Tolkien in it that names the other two and notes that they both went far to the east, so they didn't really play any part in the west...
