Ok, a thread that does not require to plot the deaths of millions, nore requires great cities to burn down, ancient empires to collapse nor require 1,001 elephants as backdrops.
The modern Olympics were the idea of a Frenchmen in the last years of the 19th Century. can't remember the exact details but for the thread its not important
What if he hadn't had the idea? Would a regular international multi-sports festival have been created eventually? Possibly Post WW1 as a way of promoting peace? Or at some other time? What effect would there not being an Olympics had on Hitler-no 1936 chance to show off?
Was the West's love of Greek Culture so strong that the revivial of the Olympics not so much 'if' as 'when'? Was it inevitable that any international sporting event would have been named 'Olympics' or was there another name that might have emerged?
