I'd like to point out that a lot of those links do not lead to the map.
For example:
World 2006, shows islands and microstates (Thande) *link
Thande posts once on the linked page, not map.
Floid's world map 2006, shows islands, microstates and Antarctica *link
No mention of Floid at all.
Maps are important, we need a nice well laid out database.
Edit: Also, since when did blank maps mean with borders?! THAT MAKES NO SENSE! BLANK MAPS. BLANK.
Okay, say I'm a new user (which I am), what I want is a Q-BAM map of the world, without borders, without rivers, etc. Should be pretty easy? I look around, WHERE THE HELL IS IT?!
Now, I can't find that, but I remember that nice map where the land was grey, and the seas and borders were white. Now, that map would do for something else, I can't quite remember if it had Antarctica. But I did like the grey and white. So where will it be? OH! I have no idea!
Everyone on AH should settle on a single map, AS STANDARD. Variety = not good. It's best if it's high-res, and if it has Antarctica (at least that's what I think). There should probably be a low-res version too though, maybe. These two should be easily (I'm talking in AN FAQ WHICH DOES SOME GOOD (HAVE YOU HEARD OF ACROYNMS I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT DBWI (Debatable whatif is my current guess, but then FBWI is what?)) New people come to this site! NEATNESS! Information should be available in ONE THREAD. This is NOT DIFFICULT.

Calm down, please. (I think that's good advice. You appear immensely agitated.)
I, for one, had never heard of that "map index" page before you pointed it out. I'll try to address your complaints.
World 2006, shows islands and microstates (Thande) *link
Thande posts once on the linked page, not map.
That page includes the 2006 map with islands and microstates in post 108.
Floid's world map 2006, shows islands, microstates and Antarctica *link
No mention of Floid at all.
Floid posts six times on that page, the third of which (#350) contains the relevant map.
Maps are important, we need a nice well laid out database.
We have the Blank Map Directory, which is, unfortunately, very incomplete. (start -> Resources -> Atom's Blank Map Directory) The index you just pointed out strikes me as well laid out--certainly more so than the threads that hold the maps. The Index also has another advantage over the Directory in that the maps don't have to load unless you want to look at them specifically.
Edit: Also, since when did blank maps mean with borders?! THAT MAKES NO SENSE! BLANK MAPS. BLANK.
I'm guessing that the idea is not "blank map (including borders)", which makes no sense, but "blank map (plus borders)", an eminently reasonable concept. It is a bit confusing, though.

I don't know, but it would be nice to see them added to the Index. I think the latter one is in the Directory somewhere.

Different basemaps have qualitative differences, and are thus appealing to different people for different reasons. Thande's Secret Project: The ATL Maps Database uses a standard base, but mandating a standard for everything doesn't seem workable.

Discussions of this have generally come to the conclusion that the people who would benefit (newbies, unfamiliar with the site) are precisely the people who wouldn't know where to look. Since you are taking the trouble to ask, just check the AH slang article on the wiki.

Oh, I understand now! I don't have the standard posts per page (I have the maximum), why isn't it linked directly to the post?!

Not quite sure where you mean, on the Wiki?

Indeed it is. I was pretty sure a blank map was specifically one without borders, a blank map (plus borders) being contradicting.
I don't know, but it would be nice to see them added to the Index. I think the latter one is in the Directory somewhere.
Most veterans I understand probably have it, and so this has never occurred to them, but it's annoying for the new people.

For example? I've seen probably four versions.
The most common is the regular one. Blue sea, black outlines. Next is the same version of that, except with the countries shadowed. Then one with white sea, grey land. And finally (Q?)BAM.

Well, most new people would know what FAQ meant. And that was where I looked originally. I then looked on the front page of Wikipedia and didn't see anything. No help section.

This should probably help.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_acronyms_and_initialisms
If you go down to the section that says "Add new entries here or in the sub-pages," and then go down to the "List of acronyms and initialisms" subpage, you have all of the links in alphabetical order.
It's pretty self-explanatory, really. It has basically everything that you're asking for, along with other official acronyms.
Ironically, I found this out myself when I typed in one of the acronyms from this website on Wikipedia because I didn't know what it meant, and it gave me a list of words starting with that letter.

DBWI isn't there.
I know what it is, no idea what it stands for.

Of course it's not on flipping Wikipedia, it's a piece of AH slang! Why don't you look on the actual AH.com Wiki (http://wiki.alternatehistory.com/doku.php/offtopic/ah_slang), seeing as that's what this subforum is about!

Ah ha, thank you.
Also, it was that other person who said it'd be there.
The Future Blind What If isn't there. If that's what it stands for.

Map Games/Shared worlds.
That's how I have gotten over 3,000 posts in about 7 months.

In ASB and Sandbox. Most in the ASB. Actually, I have no idea how it got so high. And Yelnoc, I don't do map games, cause I end up wanking Britain.
