I haven't seen this movie, and was told it's just crap, but does anybody reckon it has any AH elements at all ?

"Timeline" is pretty good. It's one of those movies you see once and it's good, but don't buy it.

SPOILER ALERT

One of the present-day characters (Merrick, I think) falls in love with a French noblewoman and stays in the past--his sarcophagus is discovered in the present-day, along with a message he left for his friends and a description of the life he led.

SPOILER ALERT

I figure Merrick could help the French out with various technical things; after all, the old professor is forced by the English to make Greek fire and another stranded time-traveler became a noble and is the one who does the forcing (plus he helps in some other matters).

I saw the movie and thought it was great, but I also read the book it was based on, so it was especially satisfying for me. Several other people I talked to said they thought it was a good movie too, though I don't think it has AH

one quibble: the English spoke perfect modern English, and the French spoke perfect modern French, so much so that the modern people were able to understand them easily. I'm not sure how much French has changed in 700 years, but I'm pretty sure English back then was about incomprehensible to us now. Of course, it moved the movie along nicely....
