"The Mongols are coming! The Mongols are coming!"
When Cmd. Ilyich Treshenkov heard that he instantaniously dropped his cup of coffee and ran to a window. There he could see the Mongol army coming towards his lines over the last mountain range of the himalaya.
Cmd. Treshenkov did not spent a second more than he needed to and gave orders for all to fill up the trenches and to shoot any Mongol who comes in shooting range. The artillary had too shell the army.
10 minutes later the army came in artillary range. And the shelling began.
over the next 15 minutes the Mongols fell like flies. They had no chance. They cannot use their artillary because of the mountains, the cavelry is not able to fight because the horses are frightened and run any where. The Infantry is slowly moving further towards the Russian trench-line.
Cmd. Treshenkov looks the army ncome closer. 10km. ahlf an hour later only 7km. another half an hour later 4km.
The Cmd. cannot understand why they are doing this. He estimates already losses of about 60% but the mongols are still not retreating.
after 1h and 20min the Mongol infantry reaches fire range of the Russian Infantry in the trenches. Now the comander was only able to hear firing underlined with the deep noises of exploding shells.
The slaughter only needed 2 hours then the shooting stopped. not a single man was standing in the Mongol army. The Cmd. could hear people moaning.
The next day he looked over the battlefield. It looked like swiss cheese - everywhere holes. and it was red. blood red. the moaning stopped too.
Why did the Mogols do that? That was suicide! and not a single Russian soldier got even wounded. He could not understand this. But what he could understand was that the Mongols will continue to attack and they will not retreat anymore. From now on the Trenches will be always filled with soldiers. and the Border will always be on alert level orange - ready to fight.

March 5, 1886, 2230 Hrs.: Edo Bay
Emperor Mutsuhito Meiji surveyed the landscape of edo bay. "American dreadnaught... British Merchantman...German corvette...russian freighter...and of course, the staple japanese open air fishing skiff." The emperor said to himself while watching the harbor from his porch at the imperial palace. When he took charge of Japan from his father, Emperor Shinji Meiji, the Manchurians and Koreans were still fighting over the water rights in the Amur river. Those stupid Manchurians neer ceased to amase the emperor.
"Emperor Mutsuhito, you might want to read over this." Said an aid. He quickly read over it. "Damn...stupid Daimyo from the Kobe district, bitching about how his samurai never get to have any open arms practices in the streets. THIS ISN'T THE DAMNED 15th CENTURY!" He yelled out while tossing the memo to the ground, letting the wind pick the slip of paper up, and draw it into the air, and away from the enraged emperor. For 155 years, the Daimyo accords had bound the remaining 80 daimyo of Japan together into a ruling body. The bloody civil war had raged for close to a full millenia, the Japanese had been fighting not only Chinese, but also each other. The rival shogunates had sent out their trusted samurai to do their fighting for them, and built personal armies to fight for supremacy.
The emperor watched quietly as the american Dreadnaught USS Philadelphia turned on her flood lights, illuminating the darkened harbor. It was to be a long day, and the emperor needed his sleep. He walked into the bedroom, slid the screen shut, and quickly fell asleap on the sleeping mat laid out for him by the maid.

"I don't like to see the convoy go." said William Francis, as he stood by the city's port. "It always feels like we're suddenly vulnerable."
"Oh, don't worry, they'll be back by April. It's routine, and who is going to invade NEW GOTLAND? The Andorrans wouldn't dare touch Imperial Territory, and in Lafayettia you just have the French, who couldn't invade themselves, let alone New East Vienna." responded his friend.
"You're right. I'm just being silly- But you always have to be prepared! I wish that Prague wouldn't take such risks as removing our entire naval contingent once a year."

Captain Andrew MacKenzie of the HMS Bellerophon sat in the lounge of the Officer's Club with his Lieutenant, Morris Filmore, discussing developments abroad.
"Well, Leftenant, looks like the Fuzzies have actually invaded East Africa. That's a distressing development to say the least. If they can stir up some dissent in Northern Africa, we might well have the bloody French looking to swoop in on what we've claimed."
"Very much so, sir. However, I think that the 92nd is going to be sent in, last I heard. Or rather the "Gordon Highlanders" as they are known now. All those damn consolidations done back in '81. I can never get all those new Army regiments down."
"The Gordons eh? They've got plenty of experience in Africa. They fought the Zulus back in '79, and were there through Majuba Hill, if I remember correctly. They should do fine against the damned Dervishes."

The Ball of the previous night had been really fruitful. The British ambassador had been really impressed and a concession over China would finally be obtained for the King. He would be proud of him. The sky was really clear this morning and the sun started to warm the city of Manila. He loved this country. Sometimes he thought that if don Carlos had his rights over the throne of Spain finally recognized he would ask him to remain here as governor.
Suddenly an intense light filled the sky in different waves of intense colours. Ramón Urrutia y Castrourdiales had never seen something similar. Maybe it was a sign that the China operation would be successful.

The Shah always had feared that Great Britain and the Ottoman Empire reached some type in agreement strategic to distribute Persia. He had been able to expand his Empire further on that no other Persian monarch in long time, but that threat was there. The information were clear the territories of the Emirates of Hyderabad, Turbat, Quetta, Sukkur, Lahore and Peshawar had been occupied by the British. Nevertheless the Turks had not moved, in fact the information were that there were no Turkish forces in the border.
"I propose that we concentrate about 100.000 men to prevent that the British advance more and we attack the Turks now who are off guard. One nourished cavalry force could try to cut the Ottoman territory in two while our infantry occupies her cities."
"and if it were a trap?"

WEAPONS OF TURKS APPEAR TO BE AROUND 400 YEARS OLD STOP

With that telegram to the central government in Trebizond, the King-Emperor was shocked. Shocked. He conferred with his advisors immediately, after all, passage through the Bosphorous was integral to Trapezuntine commerce and trade.
His advisors were just as worried. The Foreign Officer, who was an expert in Turkish history, pointed out that Adrianople was a historic capital of Turkey, and one of their largest cities.
Eventually a hypothesis was formed: The Russians, with whom Armenia had an alliance, had attacked the Sublime Porte, and seized Constantinople in a lightning attack. Obviously the Turks had declared war on both Russia and Armenia in responce.
So, a Megas Doux-class ship of the Imperial Navy was sent out to the city of Constantinople, to see what had happened. The chief diplomat aboard held a renunciation of the Treaty of New Moscow, and orders to, if need be, seize the city to protect Trapezuntine commerce.

Constantinople
Roman Empire (Called Byzantine)
April 5, 1886 (ISOTed from 1400 AD)
1:03 PM
Regent John VII Paleolougus lamented his cruel fate. His 'Empire' was but a few fortresses on the Aegean, and little did he know but he had lost most of that. His crowing glory was Constantinople, but that city was in ruins since the so-called Crusade, where the Venetians sacked the city. And now, the Turks attacked his City, his capital, while his co-Emperor brother Manuel was off trying to find help.
He looked out the Palace Window, and saw the Turks, still seiging the city. He prayed to God Almighty for a miracle, something.
And then, out of nowhere, a massive ship entered from the distance, flying a flag that looked, though he could not be sure, to be Byzantine*. Was this a message from God?
Aboard the ITS Andronicus II
Telemachus Diogenes looked through the telescope at the city in the distance. He paused, then looked again to make sure. "Captain! Come quickly!"
Captain Paleolougus ran towards the sailor. "What is it, boy?"
"The city, sir, look at it's banners!" replied the excited Diogenes.
"They look like the normal Turkish Red banner from here, son" replied the old captain.
"Look through the telescope, and you'll see I'm not lying!"
"Let me see that." The old captain took the telescope from the man, and peered at the city. The sailor was right, it didn't look the same. Indeed, it was much smaller, and that was not the Turkish banner at all.
"Good god, that's the flag of the Roman Empire!"
"The Roman Empire? Here?" asked Telemachus.
"It seems so. Telemachus, is the Adrianople still attached to our ship?"
"Yes sir." replied the sailor.
"Get one it, and get back to Trebizond immediately. We need new orders, I presume."

"Kocharian? I know of him. A good man, governor of the Tigranocerta Province." said the King-Emperor.
"Yes, sir. He wishes to extend the Cilician Armenian Principalities under our rule. As you know, most of the 2nd Yerevan and the 7th Alavardi are both in the Province. He wishes to move the rest of the 2nd into the Province, and move the seventh into Cilicia, and extend our rule there. The princes are mostly Muslim."
"Well," replied the King, "Tell him that we should try to work with the rulers. He may take most- not all, as I will not move the rest of the 2nd into Tigranocerta- of the Alavardi into the Princiaplities, but any of the Princes who are willing to convert to Christianity and be subordinated to me are to be left alone. ....Today, we reached the capital of Ramazan. The Emir there ruled over a population consisting of a mix of Greeks and Turks, who formed a slight majority. The Armenian presence of the nation was almost non-existant. Much of the old Cilician Kingdom was held by Karaman, to the west. He was at first reluctant to join our nation, and rightfully so, for who wishes to cease being a soverign? And conversion seemed to be right out.
However, we held a demonstration of the Alavardi's power outside his palace. The Artillery especially had an amazing affect on him. I believe he saw our weapons destroying the walls of his palace before his eyes...
Later that day, he became a Christian- Not of our Armenian brand, but Orthodox, for he did not wish to take an Armenian as his wife, and took the name Paul, and signed an oath to the King of Armenia. In return he was granted the title of King of Ramazan...
In return for his conversion, he did ask for one thing, which we willingly granted. You see, the lands of his new subordinate kingdom and our ancient nation are separated by territory of the Dulkadir, which we took for him, with the border on the Euphrates. Several guards of the Alvardi, who were Kurdish, were stationed there, and they expect some small conflict....
Now we go to the Karaman Emirate to the west, a land that covers much of old Cilicia...."

King Carlos VI had ordered one ship to go to Hong Kong. Obviously there was something weird going on. The secret telegraph room, those messages from America, the message of the Argentinians and the lack of news from the British. The fleet of Lord Cunningham should have arrived three days before to carry the second regiment to Shanghai and they had not appeared. He did not fear that the British had changed mind about letting the Philippines to have colonies in China, but the action of the French or the Americans. Emperor Alexander III stood on the deck of the large ironclad ship, The newest of the Basileus class, and the largest. Nearby, the smaller Megas Doux ship Adrianople followed.
He thought about the journey ahead. Hoepfully, his ship would scare off the Turks. From what he had heard from the Christians in the 'Outside World', they thought the year was 1400. If so, John Paleolougus should be still in his city, praying for his brother's return with aid. And John wasn't even an Emperor, but a Regent... And in Constantinople, thought Alexander, perhaps he could fulfill the ancient dream of the Trapezuntine Emperors- To become Baselius in Constantinople itself.

"..today, we obtained for the King the Protectorate of Cilicia. When we entered the Emirate of Karaman, we... the Emir's heir was apparently dead, murdered by one of our weapons, and we still do not know how he got it...
The Emir staunchly refused to have anything to do with the Kingdom of Armenia, despite the advice of many of the Greeks in his court. His capital city of Karaman was swarming with Greeks...
Eventually, we left the city, and reluctantly planned to attack it, as per our orders. However, we were approached by a greek man, however, he was truly only half-Greek and worshipped in our Apostolic Church, who was an important man in the city, named Constantine Angelus. Angelus offered us an interesting possibilility. It seemed he wished...
It seemed odd to support a coup, yet we decided to do it. We provided Angelus with a man from our party, John Rokaraban, who was excellent at long-distance shooting. He shot the Emir from a window...
Eventually, Constantine Angelus, with only covert assistance from us, gained the support of most of the troops in the city, and the Emirate of Karaman became the Protectorate Kingdom of Cilicia...
And so we set off to Tigranocerta, and then I was to go to Trebizond myself, to tell the King of the good news."

General Pearson stood over his maps. The Burmese were operating in and around the northern highlands making it difficult to track down. In combat, they weren't much trouble, it was simple pinning them down. Using cordon lines and small groups of soldiers in the dense jungle, especially the Gurkhas, he was having no problem killing them.
What was the problem was keeping himself supplied. The roads were constantly thick with mud, and communication lines were constantly being cut by the few Burmese savages that knew what they were. They had been out of communication with London for nearly a week. Last he had heard something strange had happened to the Empire and indeed the world; some kind of melange of countries its seemed.
And as he looked at the relatively close border with Tibet and China, Pearson recognized that this situation also provided Generals with a certain amount of initiative "agreeable" circumstances that presented ample opportunity.....

The ships that came with them: The american battleship USS Pennsylvania, the Prussian cruiser Prinz Eugen, the british corvette HMS Valiant, and about 50 or so american, british, and french merchentmen sat at the far end of the harbor. "Go!" screamed the King-Emperor Alexander III, "Attack the Turks first!" The Turkish Army fled at the ship's mighty guns at first, however, then turned their cannons at the Comnena. However, the ironclad hull held strong.
The battle raged, as the Adrianople caught a awful hit from Turkish cannon, and was forced to leave the battle, limping awfully and demanding repair. It was then that Alexander III made his fatal mistake. He crossed over to the Andronicus II, and ordered it to head towards The City itself. He headed towards the city's ports, making a grandoise fool of himself by standing on the front of the ship.
However, then a Turkish cannon made a lucky shot at the Andronicus. The ship only shook, but it was enough to send the man, a King and Emperor by title, yet still mortal, falling into the water, and ending this expedition.

i suppose the alterations that our world have sufered since the christian first of april have afected your realm. in our alternative realitity armenia was a loyal vasal of the shah and we hope that this good relationship is kept. we have seen worried how you are treating muslim believers in cilicia. we suggest you to limit yourself to ocupy greek and armenian areas in anatolia leaving all turk and kurd areas to the empire of persia. cilicia will be given back to their muslim governosr and armenian forces will retreat to armenian territory.

From: The Royal Government of Armenia
The Kingdom of Armenia was never a vassal of your nation in our lands. We know that many nations from the year 1400 AD have been transported into our world, and many nations from other worlds as well. Perhaps you are confused.
However, as the territories we have taken over in Cilicia and Ramazan are part of historic Cilicia, and they are from 1400 AD, we feel compelled to note that, though official censuses have not been held, there are large Armenian populations in those areas, left from the glourious Kingdom of Little Armenia that once existed there, and in 1400 had barely fallen. There is no brutality towards Muslims in the Protectorates, or in Armenia Proper.
Quite simply, the Royal Government of Armenia has accepted the new realities on the ground, and have mnoved to protect a population that in our world was wiped out. I hope that you will understand, however, as a gesture of good will, we will allow the ruler of Ramazan to choose to return to his former faith if he so wishes, while staying under our protection.
Thank you,
Robert Askarychan
Governor-Regent of Armenia

The Problems facing Armenia-Trebizond as of April 20, 1886
Simply put, it was a mess.
The Personal Union between Armenia and Trebizond had merged the countries in many ways, but also kept them separate. Land-locked Armenia perhaps could survive alone, but Trebizond only had it's small archers, and would need to do a massive military buildup, which the Senators did not want.
A major point of the contention now arising had it's basis in the Robertic Law of Succession, signed by Robert I of Armenia, and in theory barring females from the throne, though it was written complexly. Trebizond had no formal succession law, whoever got the throne- and always it was the former Emperor's heir- got it.
The late Alexander III had left one child behind: Alexandria Zangezura, who had been born and raised in Trebizond and was twenty-one. Thus was the crisis of succession. The Trapezuntines had no problem with a female ruler, as it had happened before, and the nobility preferred it. After all, a female would be easier to control than a strong male, or so they think.
However, as has been said, the Robertic Law does not allow it, as it is commonly asserted. The House of Zangezur's tendency to have but one child has not helped the situation much.
Thankfully, Governor-Regent Askarychan has not pressed the issue, though he had not officially recognized Alexandria as heir. However, among those who want to break the personal union, seeing the Zangezurs as too assimilated into the Greek culture of Trebizond- The very reason the position of Governor-Regent was established- Have seen Robert Askarychan as the obvious choice to begin a new royal house.
The probelm continues. The Trapezuntine Senate is expected today to confirm Alexandria as Empress of Trebizond. Weather Askarychan will do the same remains in question, as right now, he has not taken a side.

"Hello, loyal subjects of Armenia. As you know, I was appointed by Alexander III to serve his wishes in Armenia...
The Armenian law, however, bars his wish from being done. His correct heir, the Princess Alexandria, has been barred from the throne of Armenia unfairly, as Robert I wished to secure the throne from his older sister...
So, on this day, I, in my ability as Governor-Regent, do abolish sections C, D, and E of the Armenian Law, written by Robert I of Armenia...

“What in the Infinite Hells is this?” the captain thought to himself as he surveyed the coast. There shouldn’t have been coast there, but a large inlet. And the land, it looked like desert and scrub, not one of the main food baskets of the Empire. It was worse than finding the southernmost island grown larger than it had a right to be in the predawn hours. He decided to send two ships back to rendezvous with the fleet, two to go on to survey the Easternmost Great Islands, and then split the remaining eight to go up the two coasts. They were going to have to redraw all the maps. And where were the crop fields?

Easter Morning
Private McKenzie had had the unfortunate luck to draw the watch on Easter Morning. Not that he had any family to celebrate with here in far off Australia, but still it seemed wrong somehow to be working on that day. He was listening to the ringing of church bells when an immigrant from India, Mister Singh came running towards him, a look of stark terror in his eyes.
Trying to catch his breath, he managed to choke out one word, "Thuggee!" before the runnels went around both his and McKenzie's necks, ending their lives in silence. The small brown men who had snuffed them out then moved to the ammunition magazine, to set the charges.
They exploded almost at the same time as the bombardment of the harbor began by the strange warships, that had almost the appearance of sharks along the horizon.
Over the course of the day, this scene would play out in port towns throughout Australia and Tasmania. And when the troops came in, the horrors really began.

"Good God.." thought Charles Bourbon. "It's all gone, it's all gone." The invaders were completely unexpected, of course, and had, simply, pilliaged and killed. And then they ate...
He was one of the refugees from Andorra Nova. They had all been unexpected, however, he hoped they could fight back. After all, many people had managed to make it out of the cities and into the forests when the attack came.
The Imperial Colony, he'd heard, had not had even close to the same amount of luck...

However, the refugees were far less than those trapped in the city. Among these in New Moravia was William Francis, formerly Harbormaster of New East Vienna.
"Where the hell is Prague?" he complained to no one in particular. "If we had a fleet, we could have stopped them, I'm sure of it!"
Suddenly, he, and many of the others in the camp outside the town, heard a cry. It was not the warcry of the "Midnight sun", which they all knew by now, burned on to their memories, but one that was not rare in the interior, either. The Maori were attacking.

He strung up the flag of truce, a plain white banner, from the ship's mast, and headed out. Karnal planned to command the ships to dock in Ragusa, or another suitable port in the Empire.
Hopefully, the Emperor could provide new homes for the people, who had decided that they would not follow the examples of the people of New East Vienna.
He heard a call from the last ship, and knew it was time to get in. His destination was far off Europe- Only God knew if he could get there.
And yet, the small forgotten colony was more lost than it could ever imagine... Little did Otto or his ramshackle fleet of ships know that the Premysl Holy Roman Empire was not there at all.. If indeed they had the luck to make it there.

The Armenians and Trapezuntine members of the delegation discussed the shah's words to each other. Eventually, Senator Diloxilos of Trebizond spoke up.
"The status of Antioch is indeed an important question. We note that Antioch, to our knowledge of history, which may be incorrect, would be home to a Patriarchate of the Greek Orthodox Church. It has been the position of both nations to preserve and protect the Christian populations, Armenian and Greek, and even the Christian Arabs, of the Middle East, which in our world suffered greatly.
As our history is different than that of the world that has been brought to us, shown by the Turks lack of knowledge of our nation, we can not speak for the religious status of the city. Thus, we propose that a religious survey be held of Antioch and the surrounding regions, and decide the status from there. Of course, as it seems to be our knowledge that the Persians are in control of the city, the final decision must come from the honorable Shah."

"However," cut in Senator Diloxilos, "We note that the former 'Empire of Nicaea', a large chunk of Eastern Anatolia, was, according to our records, still around 60% to 65% Christian, both Christian Turks and Greeks. Eastern Anatolia, with the exception of our nations, is predominantely Turkish Muslim. Thus, we propose, that if we are to divide up the Ottoman Sultanate, much of it would fall to you, with a chunk in the east, coresponding approximately, though with borders moved closer to the sea due to turkish settlement, to the Empire of Nicaea. "We are interested in assuming protection over the Christian parts of Anatolia." stated Senator Diloxilos. "Of course, there seems to be a Greek state in Greece, surprisingly to us, where in our world Greece was but a territory of the Ottomans. They may wish a say in the matter."

Protectorate of Cilicia
Armenia-Trebizond
King Constantine I Angelus looked at the shipments of arms being sent in. The arms mostly came from a large ship that had docked at Trebizond that fateful night. As there was no Kingdom of Georgia left to give the arms to, the captain made a large profit by selling them to Cilicia instead. The purpose? Modernize the Cilician, formerly the Emir's, Army. It was hoped that Cilicia could become militarily self-sufficent, leaving the military posted there for other things.
Meanwhile, the flag of the Protectorate flew behind him. A tricolor of Blue, Red, and Gold, it was the flag of the ancient Armenian Kingdom in Cilicia, with the Red, Green, and Blue tricolor of this new Armenia in the upper corner.

"We agree with you on the subject of Cyprus. Right now, it seems to be some sort of medieval Kingdom, a tempting target for any hostile powers in the region."
"Also, on the subject of arms, it is interesting to note that good fortune has smiled upon us there. You see, in our world, the Kingdom of Georgia began to head towards war with the Empire of Russia, and was expanding it's military. Several of the ships carrying guns were trapped in Trebizond that fateful April. Probably bad for Georgia, if it was left behind, however, it is convenient for us."

Gen. Kocharian*, "conquerer of the south" as he was already known, looked towards the land of the west. The Ottoman Empire- Or, as it was called now, the Ottoman Sultanate. Less threatening, yes, but still, he would have to fight.
This time, he had orders. Secure a strip of coastal Anatolia, the borders on a map that had been carried by the messenger. Of course, he also had orders to cease marching if the land was occupied by the Greeks, who, the messenge said, held a blue and white flag.
And then, he ordered the troops on.

The battle had been the bloodiest that the hispano-philippine army had been involved since the invassion of China. The Imperial army led by the Yaonle Emperor had chosen an immense plain where his cavalry would be able to surround the small Carlist army. He also had a numerical advantage on his side of five to one.
The Carlists had two regulares Regiments, the Irish Volunteers, three Tagalog Regiments and four thousand chinese auxiliary troops. Barely 30,000 combatants. But they had also their artillery, specially the gatling guns. The Chinese Imperial forces did not expect this. They charged confident in their numbers but the hispano-philippines' artillery punished them pitilessly. When the reached the rifle range they were decimated and panic spread through their lines.
King Charles VI of Bourbon, exiled king of Spain, de facto king of the Philipines looked at the lifeless body of Emperor Yuenlai then to the chinese generals that had been taken after the battle and finally to his loyal Regulares:
- I am Carlos de Borbón y Filipinas, true King of Spain, King of the Philippines and Emperor of China!!
* * * * *
The battle, just to call it something, was a carnage where 10,000 chinese died while the hispano-philippines lost 200 regulares, 700 tagalog militiamen and 1,000 chinese volunteers.

The Chinese official signed the papers. Now, officially, the island of Hainan belonged, not to the Middle Kingdom, but to a far away Kingdom, in Karelia. Under the terms of the Hainan surrender, many of the local Chinese leaders would be kept in power. This made it much easier for the Karelians. They did have a loyal Chinese population in their own cities, but it was easier to keep the locals in charge.
Now, the Commissioner-General wanted to expand the mainland properties of Karelia. Not too much, however, the pre-Event boundary of Cathay was rather constructed, and he wanted to expand it inland, and give the colony defensible borders.

Don Carlos had chosen to enter the Forbidden City surrounded only by his regulares. The Irish and the Tagalog would only take the walls and the main fortifications of the massive town. The new Emperor had never dreamed of ruling over such a huge town. There were reports of americans and british in the coast, but that did not worried him. He could cede them some ports in exchange of cash and weapons. He feared most the russians.
But he prepared to enjoy the moment. The chinese courtiers gathered around him. The generals tried to be by him and to keep their privileges. "Good ", he thought, "I will play with them".

Brigadier General Miles And Major General Thomas Bland Strange. They had stopped here in Pearl for Bunkering. There were only a few LaPlatan Ships in the Harbor, the newest looked to be the equivalent of the old Black Prince class Ironclad.
After two weeks at sea, there would be no holding the men on the ships for the two days it would take, to refuel. On the troop ship a short distance away they could hear a Sergeant, preparing his men.
Sergeant Cillín Braidy & Master Sergeant Ignacy Miroslaw, looked over the men standing at attention. Spiffy in their new dress uniforms.

uly 25th Andorra Nova on the Northern Island of New Gotland [New Zealand]
It had been a couple of Desperate months, since the Imperials had Invaded on Easter Sunday. One Good thing , Maybe the only good thing to come out of it was that the peoples of the two Islands had discovered that they were closer to each other than they had believed. They were still trying to work out the details of the New government. But for now Henri Forne was the head of the current providential government.
So when word was brought of a Large Fleet approaching the harbor, the first thought was, ?Are the Imperials returning ? When word of a almost familiar English Flag , reached him, a almost visible feeling of relief sweep over him. They didn't recognize the Flag on the Warships, but even if England hadn't been a friend of New Gotland before the Event, at least they weren't the Imperials.
Two hours later, as Henri talked to the three officers in charge of the Force that had Arrived he looked out his window, at the Harbor. There were several of the Ships tied at the Dock unloading Troops. Henri realized that even if there weren't any Imperials to be rescued from, these Rescuers weren't planning on leaving any time soon.

French Southeast Asia
August 6th, 1886
The small flotilla had set out from their home ports almost immediately after the event. They had a smaller steamer with them that would go into ports and determine if any Europeans were in control of the region. If they were, they moved on until they found a primitive area with no claim. Then a few more gunboats would peel off and claim more lands in the name of the French Empire. In this way the Celebes, Borneo, Siam, and Cambodia had all been claimed for France. And the last claim for now had been achieved with the seizure of Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province. Their remaining gunboats were even now patrolling the Fuchun River, claiming the province for France. This time it would be inevitable that they would encounter other Europeans. It seemed the land grab for China had been particularly intense. Still, they had managed to find a niche in the great Asian nation....

The French didn't land in any of those. They went to Siam (Thailand and Cambodia) which are not part of those lands, and are not claimed on the map by France.
and the Malaysian part of Borneo, so you would have met the British....
I didn't see any reference to Malaysian Borneo in either your pre- or post- ISOT holdings, nor could I find any claim marked on a map (granted the access to reliable ones are limited), so I grabbed it. When exactly did you grab the islands?
And there is the little fact that the British annexed that whole region......
Meaning what, precisely? Did you make an announcement, or send some presence to all these places?
I think Ward is going to need some more colonial possessions to bring in revenues and give a prop to French standing. I'm just trying to grab a place in the sun for France, just like the rest of you are for your perspective nations....

I will claim only the Chinese area and Siam sans the Malay peninsula then (not part of Indochina). Since I don't need to be spread so thin, given the presences of the British everywhere, I will instead have some further penetration in those regions up the rivers.

They are there. I'm having France have sent a flotilla of lesser ships out to the region shortly after the event. They've been scouting out if Modern Europeans are in charge before sending in the gunboats, laying low otherwise. They're serriptitiously grabbing territory where there are any vacuums they find.
If it is August, they have had months to get there and do this.
I hope people will allow a little license since Ward has been in the hospital or a war for most of the time, and France hasn't had the benefit of someone paying close attention to her affairs....

The negotiations were concluded. The government of King Carlos and the new Third Republic of France would agree to aid each other in China and Asia/Pacific. The deal with the Austrians had given the French a Southern port in China, Zhao'an, that they ceded to Carlist China along with a corridor to it (which very conviently also separated them from the British claims in Guongdong). The use of the Philippino ports and their Telegraph office would allow much more effective logistics and communications with the French Asian forces.

They were the last of the 75.000 troops each that the Americans and Canadians had sent to the aid of New Gotland. But with almost no fighting in New Gotland [a Little to pacify the Maori that attacked during the invasion] the 10.000 combined force had been sent else-where.

With this most of the American Desire for a Piece in the land Race was over. Pride was Satisfied, and there were lots of new land in America still to be developed.

OOC: Um, DuQuense? New Caledonia is a colony of your allies, the Republic of La Plata. Might I suggest that after taking on supplies and enjoying the hospitality of the Platanese Colonial Government, that they find another location. Hey, I here Guam is good....

foreign affairs minister Mohamed Ja'far enjoyed the garden. tyre was a nice city. his thoughts came back to the chancillery meeting. it was obvious that the british were more interested in their far east and african policies than in middle east. the drakan policy was not very clear. aggresive and isolationist, but he was sure they will be useful to the designs of the shah one day. he looked to the west and the north, the only ones that had answered and cooperated were armenia, a friendship they will have to keep, and austria, perhaps the greeks will also be invited. all of them will be power to be taken into account: they will control the east mediterranean, the red sea and the dardanelles.

The intelligence reports were concerte, Russia had most of Mainland China under its imperialistic belt. Senator Vangelis spoke before the Senate. "The Question of Cyprus is not complex. A Catholic Aristocracy rules over an Greek Orthodox populace. We, as an Orthodox power- With the exception of the Armenians- should help our Greek brethren on the island. And what do we do? Announce that any meddling with the Catholic Rule is forbidden!
The anwser is clear and simple: Annexation of Cyprus."
Demetrius Arkadios then spoke in responce. "Vangelis is a fool. Annex Cyprus? That poor land? Our treasury shall be taxed- And we may hit debt already, building up Smyrna. The best thing to do is do what we have. We aren't alone with Cyprus right now, we have Persia helping us. Should we do anything more- As the foolish Armenians already try to annex their road- to hurt our allies, who talk of uniting the Muslims- There are Muslims in Smyrna and Cilicia- and whom we depend upon for our western Province? No!"
The debate continued, deadlocked. Eventually no decision was made.

It had taken a while for this far flung outpost of La Plata to get the word what the strange storms had meant, but it didn't take long for the regional command to realize what this opportunity meant. Within months of the event, they had annexed Vanautu and the other islands immediately adjacent to New Caledonia. Oddly, when they finally got to Fiji, they had found that the French had recently arrived there. But still, the La Plata was now in a more expanded position in the South Pacific.
