Does any believe that fusion reactors could be operational in the next 30 to 50 years?
This does relate to a possible TL but I need a general concensus on if it's possible.

There is an international project working on such a reactor. Link (http://www.iter.org/index.htm)

Snag is this has been said with just as much confidence every year since ~1970...
This time, looks like they know they're at an *early* stage...
First time's the hardest: then some-one realises that, by analogy with eg balancing a 1-leg hopper, they can stabilise wibbly plasma by modulating the containment magnets at Xxx.xxx MHz.

Thank for the link.
Had a quick read . So is it safe to assume that Fusion is possible in the next 20 to 30 years.
I'm just after a consensus.

You need an inventor. We can't stabilise the plasma for tokomaks, dump the power using zeta pinch, or coordinate the lasers for inertial. So far the best fusion reactor design in terms of efficiency (watts in vs watts out) is the 1950's Philo Farnsworth desktop one you can buy for a few thousand dollars if you need a neutron source or want to study fusion physics.
Philo Farnsworth also invented the conventional television set. Smart guy.
