To most, it would seem that Ferdinand Marcos, like his Canadian counterpart Maurice Duplessis, could hardly be classified as a "liberal." Conservative, authoritarian, Catholic corporatist. But until 1965, he identified as such, when for pure tactical reasons (Macapagal seeking reelection), he joined the conservative Nacionalistas. WI he'd stayed a Liberal?
