My english teacher wants me to write a story (possibly AH) where Canada Gets pissed at teh US and invades. I need help as to where to start, how Canada gets pissed, and someway to overcome the fact that Canada has a small army, yet takes a portion of US territory.
So far ive worked out that (maybe)
- A state defects, or succedes and allies with canada (which state?)
-Canada takes the Turks Islands when it has the chance (or maybe even the entire West Indies Fed.) and uses that as a south invasion point (GOod bye USVI and Puetro Rico)
Help?

There's a difference between taking a piece of US territory and holding a piece of US territory. Canada could conceivably seize an area (tanks vs. local cops and armed citizens isn't much of a contest), but then they'd likely be ejected in short order.
Hmm...perhaps you can do something with Louis Riel in the late 1800s. He flees into the US, the Canadians follow and occupy a piece of territory while they look for him (think the US pursuit of Pancho Villa into Mexico).

Does it matter what time period we're talking about? Because if we're talking about a POD in the past, I can think of a few just off the top of my head (England isn't so nice and accommadating after the War of 1812; Civil War goes even worse and a few states end up getting 'liberated' by us canucks during the chaos and confusion).
Present day or within the last 50 years? Very extraordinary circumstances have to be implemented--i.e. nuclear war, second civil war, plague, etc.
Hmmm...was there any circumstances in the last 100 years or so that could have spiraled into a second civil war in the U.S.?

Yes the Second term of tricky Dick When the Vietnam Vets against the war marched on the capital and the Goverment ordered the 82nd Airborn into the city . The Div Comander had to tell the white House that they did not trust the Troops to fire on the Vietnam Vets . If ordered they might of joined the Vietnam Vets in the street , The Army ended up bring up the 3rd Ind Div from Fort Pope . Amd the march was pieceful .

How about a "Mouse that Roared" type scenario? Canada becomes poor, backward and unstable for some reason, but can't request aid, so decides to provoke a war with the US, get defeated, and, well...you know the rest. But eliminate the part about whatever poor little hellhole is involved keeping world peace. Instead, add a few stars to the flag.

Hmmm...so if the 82nd did join the vets and someone orders in another div and things start getting crazy and somebody panics...?
Could have ended up with a situation where military troops could have actually be firing at each other?! Whoa--freaky....
If something like that did happen--how likely could other divs start taking sides, going AWOL, start occupying govt. buildings and all that stuff?

Don't thousands of Canadians invade the US every day either in the search for a warmer climate during the winter or cheaper cigarettes and gasoline already?

One little plot outline i made has Granholm as a secret Canadian sympathizer (I never said my story was gonna be realistic). I found the outlines of 1930's war plans from the Min. of Defence outlining an American invasion too
