Some time back I bought this book, "Is Tomorrow Hitler's?" by HR Knickerbocker which was printed in 1941. It is an intensely interesting book that posits the future of the world should the United States not stand up and attack Nazi Germany. Having been written during the darkest days of the war, it is an incredible academic piece. Very fascinating and well researched. If you ever happen to come across a copy I suggest giving it a read.

That sounds awesome. I'd like to collect pre-Y2K hysteria books, but pre- end of WWII ones must be even better.

I doubt that I'm going to come across it. Could you please give us some spoilers? Pretty please? :D

Q. What chance has Communism in a defeated Germany?

A. If Hitler is defeated it is possible that the Communists will be the strongest party or political group in any kind of Germany... When he came to power Hitler dissolved all parties, and only the Communists continued a militant, underground organization. The bourgeois, democratic parties completely disappeared, and it is hard to imagine their revival... We should not forget that the Soviet government, or rather Joseph Stalin, unless he capitulates, will have something to say when the time comes to think about the kind of government Germany is to have.

I wonder if he wrote a sequel?

Anyway, thank you Emperor Norton!

The university library here has a few. For example, there's Sabotage! The Secret War Against America by Michael Sayers and Albert E. Kahn (1942) which claims that every accident in the US war effort was caused by a vast corps of covert Nazi saboteurs. Or Total Espionage by Curt Reiss (1941). which describes the gigantic Nazi spy machine, with thousands of agents blanketing the world, particularly the U.S., even where to a senior SS officer appeared on the platform during an America First rally.

(Sayers later wrote a book claiming that the Soviet government's version of the Great Purge Trials was absolutely true. After the war, no less.)
