View Full Version : Polyandry in the Wild West!

I've been thinking about alternate families in my ATLs, and one thing that comes to mind is that in 19th century western North America the sex ratio was anywhere from 2:1 to 3:1 man-woman. This suggests that, like similar high mountain desert regions in the Andes or Himalayas, there would be polyandry, where one woman is married to several men (possibly due to decreased fertility at higher elevations.)

WI, instead of the Mormons bringing their polygynous institution (and women) to Utah, there is an alternate "free-love" polyandrous creed that fits in quite well with the Native practices? How would such a society work?

Some of the quasi-utopian socialist movements in the US and Europe advocated this and several set up model settlements in the US. Im suprised that they never got the idea to get as far from civilization as they could so they could succede like the Mormons did.

If you do a TL send them to Idaho.

It would be amusing.
