So what was it that made George Lazenby the best ever Bond.
He made 11 films over 20 years with his best performance being his last in Licence To Kill.
The only pity being that he was considered too old and dumped from the next movie GoldenEye that was a commercial failure.
Since his dumping many actors have failed to replicate his quintessential "Bondness" and failed some only had the one movie and a couple two.
Why will George Lazenby always be Bond in the minds of many.
lets discuss.

Lazenby humanised the character. Connery played Bond very much as a ruthless super-agent capable of completing any mission no matter how difficult and then going back to his hotel for champagne and sex.
With Lazenby's Bond you could always sense Bond the Man under the armour of Bond the Agent. When Lazenby's Bond was shot or beaten it left scars and bruises that effected the character, and when Bond girls were killed he didn't just shrug off the deaths with a quip.
This added depth to the character and weigh to the series that perfectly fitted the movie making ethos of the 1970's.

Heh Sean Bean kinda my favourite because he showed the proper balance between the two (at the end of his run Lazenby just made Bond a weepy guy)

They were all great. Connery. Lazenby (who was a salesman prior to signing on with EON). Bean (prefer him as Sharpe though).
God help us all if they went ahead and used Moore in the mid-70s instead of keeping Lazenby.

I can't believe they were even considering Roger Moore if Lazenby had quit. I mean, Moore is older than Connery!

I think the fact that they've used so few lead actors is what has made the series so successful. Imagine if they'd switched every few years. Instead, we've got Connery, Lazenby, and that new guy whose name escapes me right now -- all across more than 20 films. That provides continuation you don't see from Hollywood much anymore.

Also Moore physically and personality-speaking is in the complete opposite direction from which James Bond should be in. Epic failure if he became Agent 007.
