Yes the ASB's want to have a bit of fun so they ISOT Australia from the first Mad Max movie (the Road Warrior to you yanks) to OTL 1776.

What happens now apart for the obvious Aussie wank.
Remember Civilisation was on the brink of breaking down in this movie as the oil ran out.

Lets discuss.

I think the brits are in for a nasty shock when they arrive and get the crap beaten out of them...
Apart from that, a world which doesn't yet depend on oil as much as it will, and has an abundace of oil will make Australia a fast superpower as they get the resources they were lacking.

Do they go after the Dutch holdings in the DEI as well as the British?

They might even set themselves up in Arabia?
Support the Ottomans?

Would this ISOT help to stabilize the crumbling Australian civilisation?

Wait... isn't the Road Warrior the second one?

Because it does make a difference. In the first movie there was a (somewhat) functioning government, with police and lawyers, and things like restaurants, bars, etc. In the Road Warrior, there's no mention of any of these things at all.

Was It?

Maybe once the first movie was a success you yanks ran the second and changed the name to avoid confusion.

Anyhow this relates to the first movie.

Road Warrior was what the yanks called Mad Max 2.

They probably decided on the name change because they utterly screwed Mad Max 1 by dubbing everyone into 'merkin accents! The blasphemy of it! Why not go and let some four-year-old finger-paint over the mona lisa while you're at it? :p

Well, The Australia in the first Mad Max movie was still a functioning society. Fuel and oil were still available although the economy was in a slump. Well if it was ISOTed to 1776, I think most Australians would breathe a sigh of relief since there will me much more untapped reserves to be had out there and if they are able to, they can get new oil flowing in 1 to 5 years, maybe the first could be on the market in 6 months. I think you might see a regearing of factories to produce electronics and the like to where Australia will at least maintain a 1950's to 1970's tech level.

I'd expect Australia to seize some of the surrounding territories like New Zealand, New Guinea and so on. There will also be a time when the "powers that be" in Australia will tell their version of the ACLU to "go pound salt" and with the rampant crime, the criminals who are really habitual will be given the choice of life in jail or 40 acres and a mule/tractor in the newly acquired areas. In 1776 and prior, the British dumped their criminals in Georgia so Australia isn't really used for that yet. Maybe they will go to the U.S. Colonies and the British and broker a deal to stop the American Revolution.

The American Special Edition DVD of the first movie cites as one of its special features "Australian OR English dub!" I have, of course, never watched the film in English, only Australian (and I really don't understand why they bothered to dub it at all... It's not like Australian accents are impenetrable or anything. It's not like they're British accents).

I didn't know it was called Mad Max 2 in Australia. I wonder why they changed it for the American release -- of course, Road Warrior is an infinitely cooler name.

Anyway, as I remember, one of the reasons leading towards the collapse of society in the first movie (not that they were really discussed widely) was that Australia was isolated from the rest of the world due to some war. Now, that is about twice as much... No one in the world understands the Australians or how they got there. I imagine they form some kind of alliance with Britain just out of ease of use, but the problem is that they're still a collapsing society. It's possible that nothing at all happens and the society continues collapsing (after all, if they're isolated, it's not like they're sending out boats to make sure that America is still there), and when the British Empire comes to Australia, they just find a bunch of aggressive people with funny accents and amazing, if broken technology.

That's stupid. Australian Accents are perfectly intelligible.

I can understand some of them better than I can the dialects of the trashy uneducated here.
