Summer 1945, The Pacific

Three Atomic Bombs Have been shipped from the united states to air fields in the Mariania Islands
code named
Little Boy, Fat man and Thin man
they are the result of years of secret research.

Little Boy is dropped on the Japaneese City of Heroshima by the B29 Enola Gay causing terriable devastation...

When the Japs fail to surrender a double strike is planned several days later , Fat man is Loaded on to the B 29 Bock's Car and Thin Man onto the B29 Named Betty's Bandwagon.

Bock's Car makes its appointment with History and dropps Fat man on the City of Nagasaki but Betty's Bandwagon vanishes over the open Pacific , is never heard from again and presumed lost.
Due to the immediate surrender of Japaneese Forces and for security reasons all mention of the Lost B29 and Atomic Bomb is removed from official records.

2005, The Pacific

A small fishing trawler conducting illegal whaling operations in the open ocean is struck by a freak storm of powerful intensity.
The storm forms a swirling vortex , lighting strikes around the ship as a frantic radioman tries to send a mayday.
Suddenly from farway a droning seems to fill the air, the storm starts to dissipate, thunder rolls across the waters .
The shocked whalers stare as from the vortex slips a huge silver plane , the roar of its four radial engins straining in the firce winds howl.

The Plane gains alltitude and catches the sun through the thining clouds seeming for a moment to blaze in unearthly glory before it is lost to the saliors amazed eyes ,for none have ever seen such a plane though all have heard of them.

The B29 Known as Betty's Bandwagon has just been tossed through time by some unknown force , and her crew unaware of whats just happened to them are continuing on their assigned Mission
To Drop the Atomic Bomb Known as Thin Man on Tokyo

Interesting ISOT---whereabouts in the pacific are they? Are they monitoring radio frequencies? Will they be passing by any major shipping lanes?

They'll definitely notice something odd about Tokyo's skyline when they're in visial range.

They will show up on radar as soon as the clear the Storm. ?How long does it take to Scramble a F-18.? ?And what will the Crew of Betty's Bandwagon do when buzzed by a Couple of F-18's. ?If they Have the Sun on their wings? If they have the American Star, on their wings.

OTOH this may solve the Traffic Problem of one lane streets in Tokyo.

I Figure they are flying under orders of radio silence and if monitoring are on the old military bands which are mainly unsused now.
entering our TL @ 100 miles due north of Tinian they have most of their Journey to the Main Island of Honshu still to go, then a turn SE to begin their bombing run.

Appearing on Radar the plane might at first be mistaken for an old Soviet TL3 until visual confirmation of its Stars & Bars insignia.
Scrambled F18's would shadow the plane but as its over open waters and they have no idea of its mission I dought they would buzz it ,but try to make radio contact.
They relay the only visual clue, the name painted on the nose.
(There is actually only one air worthy B29 in the world,FiFi, its Owned by the Confederate Air force and based in Texas)

Someone somewhere remembers an old reference of the Name Betty's Bandwagon and starts to dig through records .....

Whaling is not Illegal in Japan, Change this to Illegal Drift Netting.

The F-18's continue to shadow the antique warplane, trying to get a radio link.

Onboard the Betty the radioman,Lt Phillip Carlson , tunes his set picking up nothing but static, just as he is about to conclude that that the freak storm they encountered had shorted out his equipment a burst of loud music makes him snatch off his earphones...he adjust the volume and listens to what seems to be music though the beat is terriably fast and the lyrics are more spoken than sung.
after several minutes he signals to the Plane Bombidere who comes over .
"Joe take a listen to this?"
Captain Joe Patterson slips on the earphones..listens.

"What the hell is that Joe, whats he saying?"

Joe ,who speaks Japaneese, shakes his head...
"it doesn't make much sense...something about being a ganster...pimp...slap that bitch whore up..cause she a fine pice of..."

Joe removes the Earphones.
"Did you get a bearing on this signal?"

"Yea seems to be coming from Near Okinawia, could it be some kind of code the Nips are using ?"

"Okinawia was supposd to be secure but there might be some Japs hidden there with a transmitter, strange code though it seems to be mostly profanity...any word from HQ?"

"Nope those channels are all out..must be that storm we ran into between us and them.Internal com is out too..that thing came outta no where tossed us pretty good"

"Keep checking I'll go up front and let the boss know whats going on back here."

(anyone who would like feel free to add to the story)

At that instant, out of a cloud bank comes Sir Richard Branson's personal dirigible. The pilot are puzzled by the white skinned ship with VIRGIN printed on the side.

Lt. Carlson says, "Sir, I don't think we are in Kansas anymore."

I don't think Thin Man is a good codename for an atomic bomb - Fat Man was so called because it was, well, fat. Fat Lady or something (as in Turtledove) would be better iMO.

Actually Thin Man was supposed to be the original code name for Little Boy
so called to represent FDR, while Fat man was code named for Churchill
I guess a third Bomb might have been code named to represent Stalin and would have been called Mad Man...lol
I don't know why the Thin Man code was dropped before the Mission to Heroshima.
