The Media around the world are reporting that a massive Meteorite Showers had just destroyed every single Nation Capital in the world. Washington D.C and Moscow, among many others have been wiped off the face of the planet by the shower.
I'm here in Indiana, so I'm not affected right now, how is everyone else doing?

Australia is fine and dandy, almost no-one lives in Canberra except the politicians, and they won't be missed.

You've got that right Seldrin.
It'd probably be a week before we noticed and that is if parliament is in session.
If not then it could be months. :D
The only things in Canberra I'd miss is the national war museum oh and of course the good Doctor What's favourite pass time.
Remember Seldrin most of Australia's porn industry is based in Canberra, the god bothers would probably say that god smitted Canberra like Sodom and Gomorrah as punishment.
Oh well sometimes sacrifices must be made for the greater good.

The US is going to have problems, since I assume heads of government have been killed.

Nah, Bush is at the Olympics..... which also gets hit. Nevermind. Also there's bound to be a cabinet member outside of D.C. and the states can have their, governors pick the new senators and representatives to replace the ones lost in D.C.
Question: Is Congress or the Supreme Court in session right now?

Isn't Congress on vacation for a few weeks right now?
I can see the surviving members of our government setting up a tempoary government until the elections, or longer.
Or, FEMA takes over =P

First thought: Meteors hitting cities - time to get away from the coast!
Second thought: if only the capitals are being hit this isn’t a meteor shower, it could be a prelude to invasion.
Third thought: Congress is out on break, the prez is (or was) in China and the two contenders for the crown are no where near D.C. so just a lot of hard working government employees just got whacked for nothing.

Sweden just lost 1/9 of its population, lost a big chunck of its railwayconnection between north and south. SVT and TV4 goes of the air as does the main radiochannels. The worst thing is that most of the swedish internet would go offline since the main hub is in Stockholm
I pitty small countries like Monaco, Andorra, San Marino etc

Ever heard of a thing called the internet.:D
You get porn even if your not looking for it.
An active search and you'd probably overload your server.:p

That many simultaneous meteoers (~180) impacting with enough strength to destroy some pretty big cities (Bejing, Mexico, Tokyo) would create a world-wide dust layer about 5 miles thick for the next few centuries, choking off all higher life and probably leaving a few dozen species of bacteria aive. The ones living in the captials would be viewed as the lucky ones.

I would probably get nothing bad, just the sound of the obliteration of London waking me up.
But then we get nuclear winter, during which I am pretty much screwed. :(

Bush is dead if he's at the Olympics anyway I thought.
How bad would the dust layer be? Would it be possible to grow food on the Equator?

with the number of impacts enough dust would be in the air to put the world into a ice age. think about it as a night that lasts 5 years then starts to thin out with rain for the next 100. the rain/snow for the first month or so will be mud and over the years work its way down to just dirty water.
First day. fires burn for miles around each impact caused by hot materials falling after the impact. Dust reaches 35 miles into the atmosphere carried by the hot air rising off the impact sites. Thunder storms form off the dust rubbing together in. Mud starts falling as dust gathers to moisture in the clouds.
First week. The sun has slowly been blocked out as the dust clouds join together in bands in the upper atmosphere. Temperatures around the impact sites start to cool down. The thick cloud cover forming traps in heat from the impacts causing the temp to raise in the rest of the world for the first month.
First month. Temp has stabilized and hit its max from here its all down hill. Sun has been completely covered for 1-2 weeks by this time and crops are starting to die.
First year. winter has set in around the world. First animals to die off are the herbivores followed by the predators only the scavengers are successful.
10 years. enough dust has fallen to have dusk type light at noon.
50 years. Ice is at the equator but luckily its dirty so as more light hits it it absorbs the energy to heat up.
100 years. the Ice has been retreating for 20 years as the temp rases fast. Human population around the world is at 5-10 million and growing as they scrape out a life in the warm areas. those that have access to the old government data are able to find the locations of the seed and DNA banks stored around the world.

South Africa gets hit three times. Bolivia gets hit twice.
Israel, meanwhile, gets off scot-free, since the meteorites can't figure out which city they should end up targeting. For once, getting treated as a pariah works out in Israel's favor.
Taiwan is also in the clear, and laughing themselves sick about the consequences of China refusing to allow anyone to acknowledge Taiwan as a country.
Oh, and the ASBs really wanted to make sure of Rome. Either that, or the one headed for the Vatican collided in midair with the one headed for the Italian governmental stuff.
Meanwhile, Monaco, San Marino, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Singapore, and a number of island states have simply ceased to exist.

What? Science? Say it ain't so! ;)
It'd be a shame about Ottawa, it's a rather pretty city from what I've heard. Although ... killing all those idiots there, hmm ... it's a tradeoff, that's for sure.

I live in the North American West. I've probably got more to fear from the desturtuion of the Pacfic Islands than anything else, but I live inland so I'm alright. I'll worry about my cousins in Texas with the Tidal waves coming of the Caribbean islands. Goodbye Gulf Coast.

Denmark is truely fucked. One tenths of Denmarks population live in Copenhagen municipality, three to four tenths live in Greater Copenhagen, and three fifth* live in Copenhagens upland
*includes Copenhagens population.
