History: A massive meteor hit the earth and gave the world six weeks of almost utter darkness in 1861. It is now 1900. The upper-class Turks and Tatars near Astrakhan' and Volgograd formed their own government, a new Golden Horde, after Russian rule ceased in the area.
Navy: 2 large, heavily armed frigates, 5 smaller frigates and about 10 small sloops in the Caspian, 5 small, lightly armed sloops in the Aral, 14 small sloops in the Black sea. Canal planned to connect the two seas. Many privately owned ships that are owned by the ruling family.
Army: 9,000 normal infantry, 5,000 cavalry, and a single, largely experimental, surveillance balloon. (What?! I want Tatar airships.)

History: The Great Darkness and the worldwide chaos that followed allowed Duleep Singh to return to his home. Sadly, he sacrificed his life to save the Punjab and bear an heir, but it was not in vain, as the Sikh, or Panjabi, Empire rose from the ashes as the legendary phoenix.
The British remaining in the area was offered a deal, and became 'Advisors', helping the Sikhs with ruling the region in exchange for a favoured status. They have, to a degree, assimilated into the greater Indian cultural sphere, but they remain a group of peculiar habits and religions, and languages, too.

Of course, demographics talks against the Empire... many now say, or whisper, that the choices for the Empire are reform, or death.

History: Deseret was a nation in its own right, though a fairly new one, in the decades leading up to the Meteor Strike of 1861. Founded by Brigham Young and the LDS Church in 1847, it was an independent state up until the Utah War in 1858, a bloodless conflict which ended in Deseret being annexed by the US. Three short years later, however, the Great Strike hit, and the world was sent into chaos. Deseret was quickly reformed to deal with the problems the Federal government could not, and the Mormons dealt with the situation much better than others in the United States due to their ingenuity and their tendancy to stockpile food. Mormon assistance in the following years to help the surrounding Gentile (non-Mormon) communities was fairly successful, and this--combined with missionary efforts--increased the number of Mormons and the spread of the Republic o Deseret. Now, in 1900, Deseret reaches from the source of the Colorado all the way to San Diego and the Pacific.

They believe that only those who worship the Void Walker will be saved from the chaos and the judgment she will pass upon mankind.

History: The Church of the Eternal Night began during the days when the Earth was plagued by darkness. Supposedly a daughter the Rheineheart Banking clan contacted the Void Walker via a complex and arcane ritual discovered in a text found in the far east. Eventually, the church spread throughout the German Confederation via the Banking Clans, and with the German Confederation United in a dark theocracy, the Church is being peacefully spread throughout Europe, with footholds especially strong in Denmark and the Netherlands. The Fanaticism has also carried into the army, with many soldiers recieving religious indoctrination to turn them into fanatics willing to die for the Void Walker. Also, the German Confederation has strongly kept up its Industrial basis, in preparation for what is believed to be a coming war with Prussia.

Then, he madecontact with the old French colony of French Guiana and the two states united into the Republic of France and Guiana.

History: To be explained on Main Thread. Basically, French invade, meteor hit, government collapsed, things change, government reforms, intense division, French and Mexican factions.
Navy: None in Gulf. Relies on hired pirates (to be explained) to defend it. In the Pacific, it has but a few armed ships.
Army: Each noble has his own force. The nation has a standing army of its own, under the command of a General who is not a noble. There is a Feudal Levy system in terms of national defense, and all adult males can be called on for service (from ages 16-60), for a part of the year.

Each noble has anywhere from 1% to 5% of his local population in his guard. The National Army is roughly 70,00 men-strong, with hundreds of thousands more technically available, but dodging the draft is very common, and the most that have ever served in said army at one was 200,000.
