Another VW POD- more flags for Westmoreland

During the VW, in addition to the US and ARVN forces which attempted to combat Communist military infiltration from the North by the VC and NVA, a few other Free World countries sent military assistance to the South, including Australia (initially 1 inf bn- 1RAR- attached to the US 173rd Airborne Bde in 1965, followed in 1966 by an entire Aust Task Force- 3 bns- operating in Phuoc Tuoy province and the Aussie SAS fresh from Borneo + RAAF helicopter, Canberra bomber and Caribou transport sqns and a few RAN destroyers and frigates), NZ (an arty batt and signallers + the NZSAS), South Korea (a 50,000-strong task force including the ROK Capitol and White Horse/Pegasus Divs and Marine Blue Dragon Bde- deployed by Pres Park in gratitude for US assistance during the Korean War), Thailand (IIRC an approx. 3000-strong ground combat force from the KING'S COBRAS in addition to basing rights at Thai air and army bases such as U Tapao and Udorn), the Philippines (a small civic action contingent) and Taiwan (ditto). However, the no. of nations willing to contribute combat forces to the US effort in VN was limited, with Britain as a key ally refusing to countenance any deployment of experienced British troops at all, since Britain was still entangled in other colonial commitments in Asia, the Mideast and Africa (although there were rumours of British SAS troopers operating clandestinely alongside US SOF). Other Free World countries sent all sorts of material assistance to RVN, and Spain provided a medical team, but only the above listed countries provided actual combat personnel, despite Westmoreland's intention to attract more flags.

What sort of PODs would be required to facilitate MACV being able to benefit from more flags in terms of other allied countries contributing combat troops ? How could key US allies from NATO and parts of SE Asia (such as Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore), the Mideast (esp Imperial Iran and Saudi Arabia), Africa (e.g. Morocco, Nigeria, Liberia, and South Africa), and Latin America, have been possibly persuaded to send their soldiers to fight and die for the Free World cause in VN ?

quote: Didn't turkey send troops?

No Linkwerk, the Turks didn't deploy troops to VN, only to Korea- maybe you got a little confused between the 2 ?

I would say more participation was possible if US strategy was more rational and if allies like the Brits werent so tied up with guerillas elsewhere.

By the way, Taiwan did not send civil affairs units. However, they did send aircraft, pilots and other more "quiet" forms of aid.
